Jim Thompson

Jim Thompson was an American businessman and founder of the Thai silk and textile company in the 1950’s. He was also a former U.S. military intelligence officer.

On March 26, Easter Sunday 1967, he left his guesthouse in Malaysia’s Cameron Highlands for early evening pre-dinner stroll and vanished without a trace. His body has never been found. His disappearance is still a mystery till today.

But the memory of him still lives and there are many shops all over Thailand under his name selling high quality products.

I was in Thailand recently and brought back some (only 6 pieces) of Jim Thompson’s canvas tote bags and have put them up for sale in my blogshop at affordable prices.

Although not many, but a Jim Thompson bag certainly means a lot in reliving the memory of his devotion in reviving the silk and textile industry in Thailand which was once lost.

Jim Thompson - Elephants Tote bag: SOLD

Elephants have been revered in Thailand for many centuries. Famous as the strongest beasts of burden, in Thailand they were important in battle, with kings mounted on Elephants fighting the Burmese to defend Thailand on many occasions. They have also been noted for their intelligence, memory and pleasant nature. A Thai legend has it that a marriage is like an elephant-- the husband is the front legs, that choose the direction, the wife the back legs, providing the power !

I remember taking an elephant ride in Chiangmai’s forest and it was a rather pleasant and exhilarating experience. My elephant was big, tall and obedient. But my friend’s elephant stopped by for a drink at a pond. It was a pretty funny sight to see the elephant taking a break and my friend looking rather helpless sitting on its back. Haa…

You'll fall in love with this pretty Dragonfly ring which is a stunner! Made of onyx, smoky quartz and red coral stones, wire-wrapped, the dragonfly sits nicely on an adjustable brass wire ring base. Handmade in Thailand.

In Japan, dragonflies are symbols of courage, strength, and happiness, and they often appear in art and literature, especially haiku.

"Bonita" Flower Ring - SGD $23/-

Alas! The ring has arrived! It was a long wait..the ring took about 1.5 months to get here.

This Cocktail ring is meticulously adorned with vintage Czechoslovakian glass jewels as petals in shape of a flower. Brilliant colors of pink, amber and jade green glass drops attached to a ring base on brass tone, brand new, that is adjustable and of a very high quality.

Imported from Barcelona, the creator who handcrafted this ring said that the vintage Czech glass jewels were picked from an antique house in Prague(the very heart of the Czech Republic). And talking about Prague, I was in Eastern European Holiday a few months ago and it was wonderful experience. Will see if I can bring in more treasures from there too!

Hi hi!

This shop will be undergoing a 'revamp' soon and there will be more new items uploaded.

I've also decided to move some of my handicraft works to another website. And this blogshop will be more focused on selling items imported from overseas instead. There will be also be a variety of products for your shopping pleasure.

So stay tuned! It'll probably be ready in mid-October.

The other online shop featuring my handmade items will be ready slightly before Christmas but it'll reach out to more people from around the world.

Back from holiday

Hey there!

Time flies! Was back from my vacation in Eastern Europe on Wednesday afternoon. Went back to work on Friday and I found it hard to switch back to "reality". Kinda miss my holiday now. Sigh. Seemed long but actually although it was only 13 days in Easterm Europe.

It was good but a little ruined by the strange weather. I loved Poland, Berlin and Hungary the most. Prague was little bit on the bleak side. Vienna was okay, but too short a time to really comment on my stay there. One of the hotels we stayed in was creepy though. It freaked most of us out. Good thing I had "Holy water" to sprinkle every corner of my room. haa...

Will try to post some new items in the coming weeks. As my sales has been rather slow moving, I may be selling some of the stuff on Ebay instead. But anyway, I'll still maintain this blog as personal cum shopping blog site. ;p

On Hiatus!

I'm on vacation and have limited access to my emails and internet. Although I have an Iphone but it's gonna really expensive when I'm overseas.

Absence..

Oh dear..it's been 'awhile' since you've last heard from me. I've been terribly busy with my work lately. Yep, staying really, really long hours into the 'dead of the night', seriously...looks like I'm "married" to the firm. Haa...Sigh...but that's life for me and for some of us, I guess. I hope to change my life around one day. Been saying that all the time but it's easier said than done actually.

But in the meantime, this little "shop" of mine keeps me going and 'sane', I hope that my treasures will make inspire you or make you happy somehow. :)

I'll be launching some new products this coming Easter, so stay tuned to my blogshop.

I'm thinking of importing some apparels too. See if my intentions will materialise..haa..

I've been down with flu since the start of the Chinese New Year and it worsened last week. As I didn't have enough rest, I have been rather lethargic and trying to recuperate over the weekend.

So currently, I don't have the time to make accessories and it's quite an ardous task to handmake them.

But the good news is, I've been sourcing for new 'treasures' from around the world. They're cute and quirky stuff and I hope you'll like them when I launch them early next month. They are affordably priced and OOAK too!

There'll be quite a few new uploads as I'll be busy in the month of March. One is my forthcoming project and the other, is my birthday! Hee..

Btw, some of you may think that I've been "free" manning this blogshop. Actually, the only free time I have is my weekends making and uploading new stuff. As I've a day job and I work long hours, I can only spare only the last two hours or one hour on each weekday night to check my emails or surf the net or watch TV lor. So am not "free" as some of you might think. haa..

Setting this shop is sort of a hobby and it's a de-stress buster. It can be quite therapeutic too! ;p Just like some who take yoga or do some form of exercise to channel their energy elsewhere...it's similar in this sense. So follow your dream or passion whatever it may be and don't procrastinate.:)

"Jai Ho" Earrings - SOLD

I made this pair of earrings and named it "Jai Ho" after hearing the catchy theme song of the movie, "Slumdog Millionaire" on the airwaves recently. Although I have never seen the show before, the song just keeps ringing in my head.;p

I am fascinated with Indian jewellery as they are colourful, vibrant and intricately designed. They make bold fashion statements too!

This pair of silver plated crescent moon shaped chandelier earrings are accented with pink crystals in the middle and at the top. In addition, those crystals dangling are swarovski fushia and light rose pink crystals.

These are utterly gorgeous and sensual earrings and you will absolutely love them.

"Jai Ho" is a Hindi phrase that means "May victory be yours". It can also mean, "You are my destiny" - literally translating it to "take action and go for the girl/guy that turns you on. Basically, it just means go with your gut and pursue the person that touches your soul" (extracted from the Urban dictionary). Haa...

Dimensions and components: The length of earrings is about 4.5cm to 5cm long (including the silver hooks). Swarovski bicone crystals.
